Dr. Sunil Chandy is the former Director of Christian Medical College, Vellore and currently the Medical Director of the ITC Healthcare Project . A Cardiologist by training he has been on the faculty of CMC Vellore after his studentship and post-graduation there.
Dr. Sunil Chandy is an alumnus of CMC Vellore who joined MBBS in 1978 and went on to complete his DM in Cardiology in 1994. Thereafter he joined as faculty of CMC Vellore. He had briefly worked in small hospitals in Bihar and Kerala which influenced his choice of his medical career.
He was inducted into administration in CMC after an M.Phil in Hospital Management. After being Deputy Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal, he was appointed DIRECTOR a position he held till recently.
Dr. Sunil Chandy, although a tertiary care specialist has always been passionate about a ‘whole-person’ approach in health. The background, financial ability, occupation and family realities are extremely important for him in his practice of high-tech health delivery.
Dr. Chandy’s area of interest has been developing a compassionate and humane basis for organizational development in Healthcare. Travelling and speaking widely on Health and Management topics, he has been invited to National and International conferences as a resource person.
He is passionate about holistic care which extends from ‘Pre-hospital to Post-Hospital Care and everything in between. In his tenure, he conceptualized and designed the 1500 bed hospital in Kannigapuram, Vellore to increase the scope of service to the local patients in Vellore.
Dr. Chandy has been an avid champion of Trauma care leading to planting an Advanced Trauma Care Centre – a 3 level trauma care service coming up in Kannigapuram. He is also on the Healthcare Leadership circuit in India speaking from a Christian perspective . Some of his talks are on You-Tube and writings on LinkedIn.
Dr Chandy also spent short stints in Adelaide Australia , Muscat Oman and Brunei in different clinical leadership roles . Currently he is the Medical Director of ITC India helping them convert their vision in Healthcare into reality.
