BOUNDARIES
Some words today are culturally loaded but loosely held. One of those words? 👉 Boundaries.
When we asked you what comes to mind when you hear boundaries, you said:
“Assume yours and respect others.”
“Disconnect with distance.”
These answers reflect how culture is already shaping our view of the word.
🌍 What the culture says:
Boundaries often mean self-protection at all costs.
👉 “Cut them off.”
👉 “Put yourself first.”
👉 “Distance is the only way to heal.”
It sounds empowering. But if it makes you love less… is it really freedom?
📖 What Scripture says:
The Bible affirms wise limits.
“Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Prov. 4:23)
* Jesus Himself set boundaries—He withdrew to pray, said “no” at times, and entrusted Himself only to the Father (John 2:24).
But here’s the difference: His boundaries were about loving God and loving people well.
Boundaries are not about isolation. They’re about love, stewardship, and living wisely.
💡 Here’s the difference:
Culture’s boundaries: fueled by fear, self-preservation, and sometimes bitterness.
Biblical boundaries: fueled by wisdom, love, and truth—protecting what God has entrusted to you so you can give freely.
One builds walls. The other builds life.
So, how do we navigate culturally loaded words like boundaries?
Ask what the world says.
Ask what the Word says.
Stay rooted in Christ, who sets the ultimate boundary against sin yet breaks down walls of hostility between people. (Eph. 2:14)
We don’t need to fear words that culture twists. We need clarity rooted in Christ.
🌿 That’s where true freedom is found.
